Under Ms. Ebert, the Horticulture has been active in working with flowers this semester. The class began with the colors and shapes of floral design, then began working with both real and fake flowers. The class created 28 total Carnation arrangements for Valentines Day that led a fundraiser for the chapter. The class also worked on many designs for Ms. Ebert's upcoming wedding. With extra carnations, the students learned how to create boutonnieres, and how to pin them. Now, they are working on wrist corsages. Anyone interested in ordering flowers for prom, please contact Ms. Ebert ([email protected]) or Mr. Rice ([email protected]). February 22nd we had a Drive Your Farm Equipment to School day and these are the kids that drove equipment. We had six kids who drove Ag Vehicles which was really cool. We also had a staff breakfast in which the officers helped serve for the staff. We had biscuits and gravy with some sausage. We also had grape juice to drink to go along with the breakfast. We really enjoyed serving our staff. During FFA week, the FFA officer team presented to each of the grade levels at the Elementary School in Quenemo. These presentations were to help educate the younger generation about Agriculture. Kansas Corn sponsored germination necklaces and all groups demonstrated them before beginning their own activities. Brooke and Alaina had 1st and 2nd grade. "This class was challenging, but I think they learned a lot. I discussed the germination necklaces as well as Honey bees. With the topic involving germination & plants, Honey bees came into place. We made the kids honey bee hats as well as snacks for pollination. I had a wonderful time and I am disappointed I won't be back for this next year." -Alaina Marsh Kathryn and Chloe had fifth grade. We really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to the fifth grade about FFA during FFA week. We began our presentation with our germination necklaces and I really think that the students enjoyed these. After the germination necklaces we had another activity about the different layers of the soil. We had a snack cup for them to enjoy also. Presenting to the elementary kids was definitely one of the highlights of my last FFA week that I will be participating in during high school. - Chloe Frank and Koby had the third grade class. We enjoyed our time with the class and getting the chance to talk to them about FFA during FFA week. We had a germination necklaces that they all got to have and make. The kids all enjoyed getting those after making them. Also, we had another presentation over drones and what drones can do in agriculture. After talking about all the things drones can do for agriculture, they all got to test fly a drone themselves and got to fly the drone around the gym. Bayleigh and Kaelin had Mrs. Lacey's 4th grade class. "We started by showing and explaining the germination necklaces we had donated by Kansas Corn. Kealin and I had to help several students with them and I enjoyed this part because with it being my moms class, they know me and we mess around with each other quite a bit. It was overall a fun time. After the kids finished the necklaces we played an online farming simulator with them. Kaelin ran the game and I talked to them and explained the choices they had to make to them. We played about four times, and the kids did very well on some and some of them were pretty shaky. By the end I think they were really getting the hang of it. I overall had a good time." - Bayleigh Lacey
