In the Fall a select few of our members had the privilege to attend the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 27th through October 30th. The members selected were Koby Vanderpool, Frank Warner, Tristen Duncan, Kaelin Criqui, Bayleigh Lacey, Chisolm Woodson, Braden Reed, Brice Marsh, Cole Lacey, Izzy Toman, Wyatt Lingenfelter, and Sadie McGowin. These students had to go through an application process to be able to attend. Throughout the trip, they enjoyed many restaurants that were special to the areas they stopped. The trip started early Sunday morning when they began their journey to St. Louis, Missouri. In St. Louis they visited the Gateway Arch. Then they traveled on to Louisville, Kentucky. There they visited Louisville Slugger and Churchill Downs. Between Louisville and Indianapolis, they stopped at Blue Springs Caverns and got to take a boat tour down in the cavern. On the last leg of the journey, they finally made it to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they visited the Indy 500 track and attended the opening session of the 92nd National FFA Convention & Expo. There were over 65,000 members and guests in attendance at the conference. Brice Marsh said ¨The number of people was breathtaking and indescribable.¨ They also got to listen to the guest speaker Bob Goff speak about his inspirational story. Unfortunately, they had to head home that night due to a football game the next day.
Over the summer your officer team has been busy, busy. In May, they attended state convention in Manhattan where they attended sessions, helped with the food drive and got to see Randal King in concert. Next, we had a student from our offer team, attend the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) in Washington D.C. in June. Sadie McGowin was that member and has said it was the "time of her life" and that she is "so so glad" she went. Lastly, your officers went on retreat in Bennett Springs, MO. On the way there they made a few stops. One at Epler Farms and the other at Highland Dairy. Over the next few days they spent their time, fishing, bonding, and planning the upcoming year's activities. They are so excited and can't wait for an exciting 2019-2020 school year! Ms.Ebert took Bayleigh Lacey, Haylee Miles, Tristen Duncan, and Sadie McGowin to State Vet Science at Kansas State University. The contest included: identification of breeds, parasites, and tools; math and conversion practicum, a written test, animal handling and restraint practicum, clinical procedure practicum, and a current events practicum which was over Antibiotic use in Livestock. Following, the girls spent the day out and about in Manhattan, visiting Manhattan Hill, Rocky Ford, and Carnahan Creek. They ended the day with Call Hall ice cream before returning home.
